2.6 to 3.2 engine upgrade
« on: 16 September 2012, 09:36:26 »

my 2.6v6 had the oil cooler problem a few years ago and although very reliable since, i feel it is in need of a good rebuild. the car is a manual. question is--- could i fit a 3.2 onto this gearbox? if so, what donor vehicles could the engine be sourced from. i would have the new engine fully overhauled before fitting. what else would need changing? has any of you done this? thanks tom

Should be a straight forward engine swap :y

RobseyMV6 has done this conversion, sure others have also :-\

You'd probably want to change the diff ratio too.

IIRC the 3.2 will run fine on a 2.6 ECU but if you want to swap to a 3.2 one you'll need the immobiliser and key transponders to match the ECU.

Hi Guys,
Would it be "restricted" on the 2.6 ecu or would the differences be minimal that you would not notice?

Which gearbox?

Manual should already have the R28 which is tough enough to cope with the 3.2.

Auto will have the AR25 & a torque converter matched to the 2.6 V6.

The AR25 is considered a bit fragile by those who have 'chipped' their 2.5 diesel engines. Depending on your driving style you may be OK :-\ Also not sure whether there is a different gearbox map that should be loaded into the gearbox ECU  :-\

R25 should be fine with a 3.2 though. It's the auto boxes where there will be problems.

What would the 2.6 do if it were plugged into a 3.2 ecu  :-\

Pretty much work as normal, I think. The ECU fuels according to MAF so the smaller engine will just draw a little less air, and a little less fuel will be delivered.
