More banking dirty do 's (swap derivatives)
« on: 11 September 2012, 17:15:44 »

What a surprise. Investment banking companies based in the UK appear to have been swindling the Italians and it may have a dire effect on the Italian economy.(for economy read actual people).  I wonder how they sleep at night after a hard day at the office?

Remember, though, that these are merely London-based banks, not UK banks as such (certainly the case of Nomura and Deutsche Bank at any rate). Also, though in no way defending them without the facts, there is a difference between swindling and assuming (wrongly, it would appear) that these investors were aware of the risks they faced. That said, it certainly looks as if this could be another case of poor banking regulation. ::)

I'm also these days very skeptical of the neutrality and objectiveness of Italian courts as there are many Italian prosecutors out to make a name for themselves, by creating high profile cases against multi-national companies.

They are no where near as good at this as the US authorities, where they negotiate settlements with big fines, that justifies their existence and boosts the public purse.
