To Clay or not to Clay

Thinking of ( if it does not rain ) of giving the car a good clean not had much timr over the past few week. Thinking of using one of thoses clay bars you can get . Has any one used one before and what would be the best way to go about this. Also any brand best ?

I have done it and it makes a hell of difference. Nice hinny smooth car afterwards.

Maguires is the best. i tend to work my way around the car, starting with the roof.

I would reather live with te stone chips then attack my motor with sand paper.

Yeah, I did say you'd have to be brave for that link; I don't think I could do it to my car without proving and practicing 1st on yours :y

The guy I just bought my wheels from had a late Astra, it was beutifully done with all the Irmscher kit etc., but he had one of those leather stone chip protectors accross the front of his car. That's taking it one or two stages too far in my opinion.

 Yep. Why bother cleaning and detailing the whole car, if you're going to put one of those ugly things on the front? I'm obsessive about keeping my Omega clean, but I know cars are meant to be driven, and stonechips are a risk you've got to take...

i used the green bottle of turtle wax and the cars so slippy opening or closing the boot is strangley amusing as i cannot get a grip ;)

 Better than seeing fingerprints in the dirt... or graffiti.

 (Out with t'mother the other day for a drive, got the car filthy. The car became a Mazda 3 RS Turbo Cosworth... as well as having "cleaned by Stevie Wonder, driven by Ray Charles" written on it. Nothing to do with me, of course...)

Clay bars are used alot in the trade & do work with decontaminating (contam) the paintwork. However unless you do high mileages or work somewhere where your car gets fallout while parked, lime quarry etc. there's really no substitute for regular handwash, shammy off & wax.
   I work 55/60 hrs a week with some nights out but i manage it. :)
