Been a good afternoon
« on: 20 September 2012, 17:29:10 »

As have mentioned before I have father in laws old Omega, he did mention it had a very slight coolant leak but it was very slight. It had been to the garage and they advised him "probably around the oil cooler mate, they all go there!"  Well I had a practice stripping down my old v6 over the last couple of weeks before it went to the scrappy just to see if it was something I wanted to tackle myself....

Anyway, read through a lot of the posts and guides here (brilliant!! by the way) decided to start with the easiest and check the HBV, yep it was leaking! New one fitted this morning, coolant refilled etc.. all breather pipes clear as well so that was a bonus. Took about an hour and a half I reckon so was pleased with myself, cant wait to tell him!

He got rid of the car because there were too many niggles and little problems with the car. Cruise control didnt work? Strangely the wires on the stalk were cut and taped with insulating tape (did work when he bought the car, garage advised him there was a fault!) changed stalk with mine, all works fine. Coolant level switch on header tank not working, new bottle fixed that. Leather interior out of mine into his, in my opinion looks much classier looking as his seats were filthy and a bit tatty.
All in all a very good afternoon!

It's the satisfaction of owning an older car, you can fix things yourself without worrying about the warranty or whether you'll upset some computer or other. :y
