Anyone have the part number for the stat transfer pipe, or the relevant O rings if they're available separately please?

Coolant transfer pipe from Vx comes with both 0 ring seals.

When fitting transfer pipe into open end of thermostat tube worth a bit of universal lubricant on assembly...spit  to ensure pipe goes in smoothly :

As said, new pipe is about £11 and comes with the O rings on it. Up to you really, I've never got one off without mullering the pipe so I've never had the choice to just replace the O rings.

Pipe usually needs replacing because you cant seperate it from stat tubing as it corrodes in place and being light ally it can split when forced apart.

If you have already pulled it apart to get stat and body apart I would expect just new 0 rings on your existing transfer tube will be fine and fair bit cheaper.

Mmm. Decisions, decisions. Either way the car will be off the road for another few days, which I can't really afford. I'll see what the local stealer can do for me.

Guess it may be worth replacing the whole pipe and that would be it done and dusted. If you have to withdraw the pipe to fit new O rings anyway .......

Just replaced one stat to a 2,5 engine and did manage to separate the stat housing from transfer pipe and only replaced the o-rings (did no thave the pipe on hand which helped the decision  ) The transfer pipe was not in too bad condition, some scraping and light sanding was needed on the grooves for o-rings.

By the way, guess what was the hardest part in whole operation? Getting the car started after assembly! I cleaned the breathers also as the plenum was off and it was extremely difficult to start, tried it at least 40 times and finally decided it just needs to be cranked longer. Generally, to save the starter, you should not crank longer than 20 seconds... well, I had to crank it for a minute several times... and still can no timagine what caused this. Runs ok, no codes etc. But my point is, that you should not be afraid of b-bolt or any other part, stat is very much doable

I've only done one - recently, my 3.2 - and could have used the old pipe which was in good nick. The engine has only done a well-maintained 52k, which may explain the good condition.
