Facelift Drivers door removal......
« on: 04 October 2012, 10:06:17 »

 :D
How do I remove the drivers door so I can repair the door strap mountings? I have tried to do it insit but there is not enough space to allow me to reshape the steel housing so I can fit the repair plates and new strap? (I have yet to get them).
The removal of the door card was easy thanx to the guide but now I have to put it back together again until I get the knowhow of how the door comes off and the part required..........from where............?
ARGGGGGGGGH! one little thing after another.......... :D

Disconnect the battery and go and have a brew then remove the red clip in the electrical socket between the door and door pillar and twist the ring on the connector which should release the loom. Then undo the door strap and remove the top and bottom door hinge pins but have someone holding the door oh and its bloody heavy ;)

K....how do the hinge pins come out? Any special tool or whatever...or just a hammer and drift?
 :o
I have had the door card off and removed the knackered strap but had to put it together again without the strap to be able to use it to get the other half to work and back.........

The door pins can be removed with a pair of molegrips and a hammer, but it would be far easier and less likely to damage the pins if you get a door pin removal tool.

About £15 delivered from ebay.

Got 4 new plates, 2 spares just in case (which they called 'Reinforcement') at 1.98 each and a pair of new hinge pins (which they called 'Clamping Sleeves' at 1.04 each. Total of £8.65 Trade........

Just got to wait until Monday for them to arrive.....
Gives me time to locate my pin removal tool that I have not used in donkeys years or at least my set of parallel drifts then its on with the show.
When I look at the door strap it is lacking in the older types of the buffer spring or rubber donut which used to part of it that took the strain when the door was fully opened and no doubt would prevent the type of metal tearing that happens with the newer so called 'improved' versions. No doubt some wally with a diploma and no common sense or practical mechanical experience designed them, or could it be that GM VX hoped that we would just opt to change the whole door and add to their profits....... :-\
