Code reading
« on: 31 October 2012, 13:51:18 »

Hi all,
Can the 'paperclip or pedal trick' test be done on other cars. I refer to a Volkswagon Polo automatic. Not mine I hasten to add!!!. Its a friend of the wife's....she has told her to bring it here for me ( ;D ;D ;D) to have a look at. In her words.....'There has been a light on, on the dashboard, and now its starting flashing and I think it started to chug a bit today'. ???
I assume its the Engine Management, but I do not know anything about Polo's. (Nor anything else for that matter ;D)
Can anyone point me in the right direction.  :y
My 'unseen' diagnosis is to get a code reader on it ;)

The light that is on is the light that says 'check' underneath it. It is yellow with a electrical flash in it
The engine sounds as sweet as a nut.

I think its Emissions....she found her handbook, and that light refers to Engine Emissions. Does not mention anything else :y Good enough for me

Aha....just gleaned from her it flashed this morning whilst doing what sounds like a misfire, then went back to solid light. The handbook says 'chance of damaging cat, light flashes'
Not misfired since, and light has remained on.
I think the problem is solved...Lambda, cat or something on that line :y
