Last time I claimed I got over book value
Ditto, only time I have ever had a car written off was an Opel Manta, cost me £700.00, insurance co offered me £1200.00 minus £30.00 if I wanted to keep the car.
I have also been told not to accept the first offer an insurance company makes you.
Mike
FC gives you cover no matter how damage/loss caused; it will provide a loan car whilst matters are sorted; it covers you for your windscreen, and covers you (TP) for driving other cars
. In addition my FC (via the AA) is only a few quid dearer ( £48 per month) than TPFT. I believe FC is really worth it and for the peace of mind
.
In fact my insurance has come down from six years ago when I paid £86 per month
to cover a 3.0 Elite.
Take care.... This does not happen automatically!! Read the small print!!
Both my son and daughter have fully comp policies for their cars but IT DOES NOT give the DOC (driving other cars) extension. Thats how some companies pare off a few shillings to make the premium more competative on renewal....
Whats more, i have contacted numerous insurance underwriters during the course of my day to day work where the 'I'm fully comp and can drive anything' line is used.
You would be shocked at how many folks are not covered and get nicked as a result...
No, this can depend on the age of the young FC driver as to whether of not they can drive ANY other car (I used to work in a Cornhill Direct call centre).
You are right

that it is always worth checking with your insurance company, and the person who owns the other car if they are happy to let you drive it under TP cover. Can be better to go on their insurance!
Due to my age, gender and driving record, I don't have any problem with any of this.
