Dead Merc!
« on: 02 November 2012, 18:06:28 »

Wednesday morning The Merc suddenly coughed and died, got it into the side of the road and she took alot of cranking before she fired up again. As she was due a service I took her in to the local National Tyres where they did the service and she was fine for the rest of the day and evening...  :) Yesterday morning when I went to start, she spluttered, died and I couldn't get her going again.  She was leaking diesel and all the pipes on the injector pump had air in them...  :'(

After a quick peruse of the Merc forums last night, it seems that it's a common problem with the C250td and usually a set of new pipes and various seals and O rings will do the trick!  :)  Merc dealer didn't have them in stock, but hopefully will get them for tomorrow.  :-\

The problem is that I'm not at home so I havn't got The Mig to fall back on so it's a couple of buses and a train ride to the stealers!!! Bah!!  >:(  Luckily I've got most of the tools I need for the job!  :)  Fingers crossed that it'll solve the problem!!  ::)

6 hour round trip by public transport to the Merc dealer!  :(  It would have been an hour and a half max by car!!  :o

Luckily got there in time and I now have all the bits, but it's lashing down outside so hoping for good weather tomorrow...   ::)

I'm looking forward to the conversation with the next tree hugger who tells me that we should use public transport more!  >:(  ;)

I've spent £11.80 on various fares, it would have been more but couldn't be bothered to hang around for the last bus, so walked the final three and a half miles. So I saved £2.40 but got pished on!!  ::)  ;D  and the law of sod decreed that as soon as I'd walked past a bus stop, the bus went flying by and then it started raining....  :(

I reckon I'd have used about £8 of diesel, had I been able to use the car...  :-\

The Gods have been with me today and I fitted all the new pipes and seals while it was dry this morning and she started up after a bit of cranking (No manual lift pump!  ::)) I was just cleaning my tools and packing up when the heavens opened!!  :)

I've taken her for a good 25 mile spin this afternoon and she seems to be starting and running fine!  :y  I think the acid test will be if she starts in the morning!!  :-\

The only fly in the ointment was that the windscreen wiper decided to pack up, luckily not far from home!  :( Hey ho another problem to deal with....  :'(

Anyway the main thing is that I'm mobile again and The Merc lives on!!!  :y :y :y
