Pug 306 diesels?
« on: 06 November 2012, 20:33:23 »

For not able to explain reasons I may need to embrace a 306 diesel estate. Always quite liked them for some reason but don't know much about the diesel options i.e TD, HDI etc . I would like the option of running on veg oil as I work next door to the local MAKRO who are regularly knocking it out at £18 for 20 litres and know only one type of fuel pump can cope with it.

Anyone got anything good or bad to say about the things??

P.s I expect dodgy electrics ::)

The older engines should be ok if well diluted but cooking oil will kill a HDI imho  :-\

The Bosch pump is supposedly the one you want, but I have no personal experience.

They have a horrible "pull" clutch release bearing which I do have personal experience of and hate with a vengence!

Tight for space at the timing belt end.

Usual french build quality issues.

Heater matrix is an entire dash board out job.

Other than that good enough car for what they are, drive well enough, and I think their styling has aged pretty well.

Might as well pay pump prices for diesel as much more mpg, can't see the advantage myself, plus the potential problems you are opening yourself up to...... :-\ :-\

As already said the Hdi lump is not up for veggie oil,the older Td lump will with no problem although the TD is nothing like as good on fuel,as for the other problems mentioned much the same as any other 10-12 year old car :y
