When jacking the car up , are you supposed to have the handbrake off wheels chocked and gearbox in nuetral
:-\ Seems some say yes and some no .

Depends, jacking the front? Yes handbrake on and rear wheels chocked.

Doing the back? Handbrake off, front chocked  :y

Thats the way i would do it but someone i know just hoiks the car up on a jack front or back without chocks in nuetral and handbrake off  :o he recons by having the handbrake on it puts too much strain on the jack  :-\

As the jack is lifting a 2ton car, I doubt whether the hand brake is on or not makes little difference  ???

Even on a flat surface, I would be very aware of the car possibly rolling in either direction and off the stands. Takes but a moment to chock a wheel, I always now put the wheel I have removed under the car as well, as yet another extra safety net.

Can never be too careful  :y
