the only reson i KNOW his actions were to say the least 'foolish' is i know the fire officer that attended and how he is a hero is beyond me???...moving a burning vehicle fanning fire with oxygen thus causing fire to be bigger...he certainly is something.... a lunatic...needs locking up and kept away from anyone else he could set alight...

well this reported last week on kent on line so a little behind the times meridian....slow news day prehaps????

How did you figure that? He moved it away from very close proximity to a building, the fabric awnings would have easily caught light. So as it stands, he moved it, the truck burnt all on its own, which would have anyway. So he saved other buildings from catching.

General manager Ashleigh Pell, 60, said: "Martin realised straight away that the lorry was about to set fire to the shop he was delivering to.

“There were big awnings along the side of the shop. If he hadn’t moved it, it would have been a disastrous outcome.

If that was your shop, I think you would be grateful too, rather than branding him a lunatic  ::)

well there are not that many shops on pudding lane now,but when you have a fire you don't fan it with oxygen,or you do if you want a bigger fire ...but that was the word the fire officer used to describe this person...i don't think lunatic goes far enough tbh

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

Just shows how "clever" the fire officer is/was trying to be ..  "I'm a Fire Officer so I know best" ... I fail to see how moving an OPEN burning lorry at maybe 10 miles an hour is "fanning it with oxygen" given that ...... devils advocate here ... if the wind was from the rear at 10 mph .. by moving it he effectively prevented the wind "fanning the flames".

IMHO the "fire Officer" just wants his 15 minutes of publicity

I accept what TAM states of course, but I personally think anyone who did what that lorry driver did deserves a medal.  That is how the media, and those people there at the time see it. :y :y :y

Fire Officers, and senior police officers now, are often so afraid of beaching H&S "rules" and being subject to personal prosecution, that they now error on the side of caution, even when individual victim's life is at risk.  Therefore it follows they blame mere "civilians" when they take risks and use a common sense approach.

Thank God people were not like that in the past!! ::) ::) ::)

I suggest you maybe look at the photos and refresh your memory  :y

Clearly shows many shops next to where the lorry parked, which would have been set alight, as no doubt they were full of wooden furniture too.

He moved it out into the open at very slow speed (as seen in the video) so it burnt safely all on its own, harming no one.

I highly suspect there were flats above the shops, so another good choice to move it.

Given the same chance I guess the "Fire Officer" would have just sat back and watched it all burn? Just clarify again, who is the lunatic?  ::)

Exactly Tunnie! :y :y

The shops in question also had awnings outside which would have soon caught alight. ::) ::)

Another timely, intelligent observation Mr E :y
