What really pees me off with cyclists....I know I drive an 8 seater so i like to give them a wide berth when overtaking.....so i patiently wait behind them until theres a gap in the oncoming traffic.....so ive patiently waited, then overtake.....I then get stopped by a red light....then the same cyclist catches me up and squeezes inbetween the kerb and me so they are in front again.....and im back to square one 

I had one cyclist do this to me twice.......so on the third overtake i was so pissed off i gave him about an inch clearance

On the flip side though I have seen plenty of situations where motor vehicles absolutely must overtake the cyclist, sometimes dangerously, just before a red light with a filter box or a long queue where the cyclist can keep going and the motor vehicle cannot.... It baffles me... it really does...I have had it happen to me many a time.

I ride a bike to work most days (4 miles odd each way) and have done so for the last 30 years.  I have never worn lycra or a helmet, my bike is an old cruiser type with cow-horn handlebars and I have to say that virtually all the motorists I see are generally careful and considerate.  As I have driven numerous cars all my life I ride fast but carefully being aware of the problems that some cyclists can cause if not fully aware of their surroundings.

20% of this countries population are numpties, either stupid numpties or selfish numpties or both. The are pedestrians, cyclists, ride motorbikes, drive cars, taxis, vans and lorries.

The 80% tend to be reasonably considerate, law abiding people, so they don't stand out. The stupid numpties are dangerous as they don't know any better, but by far the most dangerous numpties are the selfish ones, as they know, positively know, they are by far the most important person in the world and therefore the world quite obviously must and does rotate around them. Everybody must realize how important they are, how vital it is for them to save 10 seconds on a journey, by being totally inconsiderate and breaking every law they can, where they are in such a hurry to get home to do nothing, as they are the most important life on the planet. Laws and good manners are for ordinary people to obey, not for the most important person on the planet.

So they cross the road, 10m from a pedestrian crossing, expecting you to stop for them, when they ride a bike, they jump lights and don't look as they pull out on to the main road, when they ride a motor bike, you will move over so they don't hit the oncoming car as they overtake, when they drive a vehicle they will never give way in a queue to let you out, they never signal, why should they, they know where they are going, so should you, they block all traffic by parking directly outside a shop, where they are far too important to have to walk an extra 6 feet and what the hell are you doing there as they cut the corner turning right, don't you know they do that at this time every night! It is the numpties that we all notice and curse and who cause the conflict between different types of motorist, not the decent 80%.

So stop picking on groups of road users, when all road users should be united and picking on the numpties, whatever they are doing, walking, riding or driving as they are the one who give the other 80% a bad name and are the PITAs of this world.

Personally, I would round up all the numpties spotted doing these things and deport them to somewhere like Milton Keynes and stop them from ever leaving the town boundaries, so they are confined to everlasting cycle paths and roundabouts.

Personally, I'm a cyclist, ride a motorbike and drive a car and don't have problem with the 80% of all types of road users, where I try to be as considerate as possible.

Over all of our live times 1 in 200 will die travelling from one place to another, it is by far the most dangerous thing we all do. So remember, we all make mistakes when we are driving, so we all need to be considerate enough to realize other people do to. Defensive, good, thoughtful and considerate walking/riding/driving saves lives.

Interesting discussion. I believe its 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. As has already been said, numpties use every form of transport & create all sorts of hassle doing so. I had a 3 day stay in hospital about 5yr ago as being knocked off my bicycle by a numpty at a roundabout.From behind I might add!! Broke my right wrist (which needed a plate), had various cuts and bruises and what did the car driver do - drove off and left me in a heap!!!! Its a lack of respect and most people seem to be in too much of a rush. But I doubt anyone could stop it happening

Cyclists should all go to Malta.

In Malta no one seems to cycle, as just being on the roads in or on a motor vehicle is suicidal enough, so on a pedal cycle....................carnage, bloody carnage, although the Holly Mary stops it being so bad!!

Make all cyclist register their bikes and display a reg no like car drivers and bikers have to - suggest this will curtail some of the wilder antics if they are traceable and accountable.  Until that happens idiot cyclists (ie those riding dangerously or irresponsibly) are in my opinion fair game!!

i had to laugh at the vain attempt of the cyclist trying to squeeze between the bus & the pick up truck, some of the bike riders were just asking to be run over

   I used to be involved in running a cycle speedway club. Our bikes could never be used on roads or paths as we have no brakes. We were a dicipline of another club that was a road racing club. The arrogance of these people seemed to increase ten fold once they put on the Lycra race wear. Riding side by side, cutting corners, footpaths and pavements and most were well over fourty. But, there is also the breed of driver who belives its their RIGHT to have a driving licence and do what they want, how they want and sod everyone else if they get caught up in it. A driving licence is a PRIVALIDGE, not a right. This needs to be stressed more by the driving standards agencys IMO

I enjoy cycling and have a bike but I'm too scared to use it here in London.  I've seen what the cyclists are like here - some of them are absolutely mad.

Around here I would say that the standards of driving are much better than the standards of cycling. I think the situation is like oil and water, the two just don't mix well.

Nail on the head. They can be seen driving cars, 4x4s and on cycles. It's not the vehicle's fault, it's the retard in control of it.

As for drivers calling for cycles to be registered, MOTd, insured, pay road tax, etc....  be careful what you wish for. Cycling is a green form of transport and no barriers to its' adoption will be politically tolerable, so guess which road users will be paying for the infrastructure to track every cycle in the land? (Hint: they are already paying for one to track their vehicles)
