Starting problem when hot / golf 2.0 tdi 140
« on: 14 December 2012, 10:55:18 »

As above

A customer took her car into a main dealer in doncaster too have a look at the above fault.
While there, she was told that it was very close to the next service so gave authority for them to do that at the same time.
Next day, she gets a phone call to say that they have found oil and swarf in the filter so they would have to drain the tank and replace the in tank lift pump.

800 quid later, she still has the same problem with the starting so the numptys at the dealer now wants to change the injectors to see if that will fix it.

How the hell does oil get into the filter ?
800 plus quid to service a golf and change a lift pump ?

As for the hot starting.  Any idea's ?
Heard a rumour of dodgy cam sensors causing this problem but may be 'dangle berries'
Antbody shine any light on this ?
The car has only done 75,000 miles and is on a 05 plate

TIA  :)

As far as I know, it is not loosing power but is a real bitch to start when hot.
The car does do alot of stop starts but its first and last journey is a steady 20 mile run up and down the motoway  :-\

I would love to find out how the hell oil managed to get into the fuel filter ?
That if the dealer is not telling porkies  :-X :-X

That engine also has a motorised inlet manifold flap which closes when you turn off to stop the engine quicker,if it sticks shut on start up the engine won't fire, decent diagnostic kit should be able to cycle the flap and make sure its not sticking.

Is it just a case of cleaning it out like the throttle bodys on the omega ?

Don't know to be honest'I had a customer with one that failed but stuck in the open position so didn't affect the running but did put the EML on,I didn't go any further with it as she was'nt willing to pay out the 200+ notes for a new part :(

Yes, similar cleaning process to any vehicle for the throttle butterfly.

As already said, usual cause is ECU temp sensor which is easy to spot with live data. Not very good engines the 2.0 VAG diesels, not a patch on the 1.9 PD`s

I've noticed that a lot of them consume a fair quantity of oil :(
