Astra Twintop Cambelt Kit Interval
« on: 10 December 2012, 21:43:18 »

Hi Guys,

Reference the 1.8 VVT 16v engine in Soph's new Astra Twintop (2006 - 56 plate) - is anyone able to look up or clarify the cambelt interval on this car, please?

The car has done 65,000 miles, and has no record of ever having a cambelt kit / water pump change.

The Vauxhall dealer (Baylis) working on behalf of the car sales garage (Evans Halshaw) have stated that the inverval is 100,000 miles, so as such isn't due.

Is this really true? I thought ALL petrol Vauxhalls with toothed belts were 40,000 miles or 4 years (whichever comes first). Am I behind the times with the intervals on new Vauxhalls? (After all, the newest I realistically work on is 2003) - or are we being told porkies?

Regardless - would you let your cambelt kit do 100,000 miles? I know I wouldn't!!

Accidentally ran a 1.8 XE to 100k with no concerns, XER again more than happy to see 100k :y

Based on experience of two 1.8 XE and a 1.8 XER with a combined mileage of nearly 270k :y

We currently run two 1.8 Astras. A 2004 125bhp and a 2009 140bhp. The 2004 was changed at 36,000 and 5 years old, car has only done 46,000 miles now. The 2009 will be done next year, the car will be approx 4 years old and with 43,000 on it.

I will stick to the approx 40,000/4 year on my cars.

Both cars are in exceptional condition, especially the 2004, as I like that one more than the newer one. And I intend to keep them that way.

My brother has an Astra H 1.4. I think its on a 56 so approaching 6 years. Service has been neglected and I'm sure cambelt has never been done. Any idea on the interval on these?

Sorry James  ;D

I know very little about the 1.4 but going by the pictures in your other thread is it possible it has a timing chain ?
Just cant see a belt cover in the picture.

Bit of googling revealed this:

z14xe = belt.
z14xep = chain.
