Engine problem
« on: 28 December 2012, 13:40:21 »

Hi, can anyone help as I am now puzzled.
My 2.0i is starting to stall when idle for no apparent reason, but only occasionally. She also started hunting recently when stopping, going from about 1000 - 2500rpm and back down and up again. Think they may be connected but no fault has been found.

Check and clean the idle control valve and also check for any split hoses on the intake side of the engine as air leaks will cause some symptoms you describe.
See the guide in the maint section for icv cleaning.

Ps welcome to the forum.

greetings, i had a 2.0xev enginge some years ago and the hunting symptoms you describe were similar to mine at about 100/120k miles which transpired to be the idle control valve, if your lucky you may be able to clean it out with carb cleaner (i never was !). my problems of that nature were only resolved with a new part !!! it cost about 130 quid around 10yrs ago, andy c may be able to advise current prices/availability ! as for the stalling suggest it has a talk with tech 2 to see which sensor is throwing a wobbly.

Not a sensor as the op does not state an EML light on, so ICV.

when my i.c.v was playing up , i never had stalling problems, have only had that symptom prior to changing the crank sensor on my z2.0xe engine so can only pass on my experiences. the stalling was only resolved when the old codes were removed from the ecu! if somebody can explain that one i shall be very grateful.
