so do other banks/building societies, northern rock were only ever small time and tbh chris should have gone to the wall a long time ago :y
All things are relative, so cant agree with you there. A lot of northern rock customers wouldn't agree either. Then "we" would be berating the govt for not saving the bank, and all the hell that would follow.

HSBC's cock up was much worse. Although not a tax payer issue obviously.

they were / are all crap nothing too choose between all the banks...problems started when some moved from being building societies, thats why i will never use a bank run for profit and nothing else, alright a building society has to make a profit to a certain extent  but at least as a member you have a say on what goes on

As this mistake happened in 2008 (after the bailout in 2007)maybe the treasury should have been overseeing everything they did ?  :-\

IME the problems started when banks had to start answering to share holders. Lloyds being a total shambles almost immediately after.

Anyway, we're talking about northern rock. Vamps, tell 'im...!

Its 270 million,not billion. ;)

And that illustrates us normal mortals grasp of large numbers. Even a trifling small figure like 270 million equates to around £7 each assuming about 40 million tax payers.

Just one example of many c0ck ups that are made that the tax payer picks up the bill for. ( West Coast franchise fiasco, MOD procurement etc etc)

A bigger concern is the large banks blatantly ignoring the rules and laundering drugs money, Iran arms money and so on. Now that is where there is big money. 7 billion estimated from Mexicon drugs cartels alone. Disgusting, as it helps feed crime and helps it prosper.

If it was knowingly done then those involved should be put behind bars for a long time imo.

Havent read anything about the Northern Rock fiasco recently Vamps so not sure what you mean tbh.
There was a good argument at the time for not bailing out Northern crock, but its impossible to say how different the picture would have been had it been allowed to go to the wall. In principle I would tend towards letting it collapse when it became unviable, but principles and practicality  are often uncomfortable bedfellows.
As for the "Unionists" shoot the perpetrators, just after youve shot the traitors who voted to outlaw flying the British flag on the City Hall of a British city for the first time in centuries.Unionists have often falling into the trap of knee jerk reaction and lashing out at something/ someone  local who could be construed as a target that particular day.Their own worst enemies.Always playing into the hands of the real enemies.

That has nothing to do with my post, and I object to political discussion being added to my post...... :-X :-X

Don't know what I was thinking, just Ignore this comment, and sorry if I offended anyone.... :-[ :-[ :-[ :-X

Not at all Cem.I personally know quite a few who are among the kindest, most generous people you could wish to meet, including spending Christmas day working at an animal rescue and homeless shelter. Also giving up two evenings per week to work at a rehab clinic. Dont take what the mass media feed you as gospel. A system which has gone wrong and some examples of uncaring and vulgar specimens shouldnt be levelled at a whole worldwide industry of varied individuals. To do that is simply envy that they earn more money then most other people, but believe me,most other people couldnt do the job.If they could do it,they would be doing it.
Btw,heres another very difficult to find example. ;)
http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/banker_killed_trying_to_stop_fight_1_190622

He saw two men (and possibly others) kicking the living daylights out of a homeless man and went to help.Other bystanders (who coincidentally werent rich  evil bankers) werent brave enough to do the same. ;)
