Hi guys. Drove to work yesterday and noticed smoke or steam coming from under the bonnet when I got to work. Had a look and couldnt figure it out. Checked the water and all gone. Filled it up before I went home. Got up this morning and checked the water again. Empty again. Filled it up and started her up and it looks like water coming out of one of the pipes on the hbv. Topped up again and drove to work. Had to stop twice and fill it back up. And its only an 8 mile journey. This seems to be a lot of water to loose in such a small space of time. Now if it is the hbv not to fussed as I can change that easy enough. But could it be something else as its loosing the water really fast. I used the car at the weekend to drive to essex and pick up another mig with a trailer. Could this extra strain on the engine have caused something to break? Will fill up with water and drive home tonight but will be parking up til I get it sorted at the weekend.  Any  suggestions other than the hbv? Thanks

if your hbv is bad it will pish out

As webby says .. HBV pipes are large .. if one has split, or the HBV is split, potential for a very large flow of water !!

+1 - its a main feed and will leak like mad.  Usually go around clamp, block end.

I am sure I will be corrected but doesn't the MV6 have an extra 12v auxiliary water pump that's prone to leak/go ?

Having seen one leaking before it wasn't anywhere near the quantity your loosing though

I really wouldn't drive it if it's leaking that badly, your asking for trouble

+10 just done mine it was pissing out of there right buy the coolant bridge end but hose clip
after my aux belt tentioner  pulley went and radiator blew
only found out after i done radiator and belt

in my days of not knowing anything about cars (its arguable whether I do now  ) I took it to dazzle in stoke..... with 6 litres of water on board to keep the thing topped up... and it used it all en route

It does have the aux pump but not leaking from there. So it probably the hbv then. Only changed it 3 months ago. Wont buy another cheap one. I will put the old one back on for now and see what happens.

check your pipes too mate-as they split

Well looked at car today and it was the hbv valve. I removed the wiper assembly to sort that out as the wipers were sitting right up the windscreen when they were off. Thats now sorted to could probably have done it without removing the entire assembly but that said made it so much easier to get to the hbv. I just put the old hbv on as it never leakex before I replaced it. Did it to try and sort out the heater which wasnt blowing out hot air but it made no difference.  I will not be buying cheap parts again. Just not worth it. Bought a cheap steering idler ended up changing it again. Lesson learned me thinks.

Yep. HBV - genuine only. Steering idler  -genuine or Lemforder only.
