MPG
« on: 22 January 2013, 10:57:49 »

Hello everyone. 2.6 saloon. Ok I know these cars are juicy and my car is in for a service next week but around town my car does 15 mpg, does this about right?, it passed its last MOT and it runs just fine but even so this does seem a little too juicy, I would have thought maybe 20 mpg or so. please advise me your expert knowledge. thanks. Les.

Not far off to be honest .. its a 2 tonne car that you are accelerating and braking continuously in town .. and that's a LOT of energy being used.  No idea of your driving habits .. but if you indulge in traffic light GP takeoffs then it gets worse !!  Gently, gently is the way.

Add to that, is the engine getting up to temp correctly ?? It should be midway on the guage within about 5 miles ish .. depending on the weather obviously....   if it does not then the ECU will think it is still cold and add extra fuel.

thankyou sir, i did not know the car is that heavy, sometimes i do short trips and now and again i take it on a longer drive because i know short trips is bad. sometimes i am a little heavy on the throttle, i like the sound of the engine, lol. i reckon you are right about this, i should learn to drive more slowly. thanks.

There's no way of saying exactly around town because you could be sat in the same spot with the engine running for hours

If its an auto, and you have a heavy foot, sounds about right for town driving

My 2.5 V6 gets a tad under 25mpg on town work, when I go to the folks over in blackburn or my brothers up in Lancaster then up to 32/33mpg.
