engine bay differences between 2.0/2.2 and V6 engines
« on: 01 February 2013, 08:29:29 »

Hi all. What are the differences in chassis/engine bay between the four and six pot engines? For arguments sake, let's say I want to replace a V6 engine with a 2.0 lump (ignore the benefits/disadvantages for now). What I need to know is what I'd need to import into my V6 engine bay? Do the different engines sit on different subframes etc? Ta

Yeah, I've got two Cavalier Turbos and one of them is getting a new engine in the not too distant (including all new ECU/loom etc) which leaves me with a spare C20LET and all the accompanying bits. I also have an MV6 with an R28 in need of an engine... you can see where I'm heading with this! As the Omega is a V6er I wondered if anyone knew off the top of their head what I'd need to import from a four pot Omega donor car to support the LET, if anything. I've seen a couple of LET conversions on Omegas but most people start with a X20XEV donor vehicle, making life that much easier...!  ::)

Get ready to get corrected.
Am assuming that to change a 3.0 to a 2.0/2.2 is just to use the engine bay wireing looms from the 2.0 and fit them into the 3.0.as the connectors on the battery tray are the same,
Only difference i can see is knock sensor, coil pack and injection plug.

Thanks for the reply. I have pretty much all the bits I need for the conversion from both donor cars (the C20LET and all associated leccy bits from the Cavalier and the rest of it from the MV6) however its the characteristics of the 2.0 Omega front end (subframe, mount tags etc) that I'm unsure of as all three of my Omegas are V6s. Wasn't sure if there's anything I need to swap over from a 2.0/2.2 Omega onto the MV6 before the transplant can begin and didn't really fancy finding out at the point I tried to drop the engine in!  ;D

Thinking about it, my MV6 is a 3.2 DBW so I think I'm gonna need a load of bits out of one of my PFL Omegas too... hmmn...
