The ATF needs to be warm to give an accurate level ..... doing it cold will give you a false reading/level.

Idle isn't enough, you need to drive a few miles to warm it all up properly, and don't forget to cycle the transmission before you check the level (it ensures the torque converter is full)

good evening all

Ive just came home from doing me ATF top up it took just over a 1l bottle the gears are much better and the performance is much better even though it is in limp mode but it still hasnt sorted me 1st gear problem (bites then revs then joders), although while i was topping up i did notice that the old ATF oil is very black what does this mean?. and if i re drain and get new filters and that would that solve my 1st gear probe or would i be better of putting a brand new 2nd hand box on her its been like it for a while now but i dont want to give up that quick on her as shes my baby girl some one at work said it could be the torque converter on way out but i dont know ive done quit alot of work on her just to give up. any help would be much helpful many thanks darren
