The gunk was all up it, really thick stuff. My car is at garage now. I have to let them know if they can go ahead. Can you ring me mate please? 07557880563.

I'd advise them you will take it back & not to go ahead with any work.

Drop a PM here to DarthLooKnee, arrange for him to come down and take a look.

You can have serious amounts of mayo, its still completely normal especially if going by Vauxhall's 20k oil change service

I am in corby, northants. I noticed no oil in the water though, but garage said its the heads. I never had any sign of head gasket problems as my temp was ok and no white smoke. But he said it is. I thought it was strange with no oil in the header tank.

Don't use this garage again, sounds like the want to rip you off!  :o
Or don't know what  they are talking about >:(

OP has just PM,d me saying its a 2.6 engine. As we all know, its unheard off for head gaskets to fail on a 2.6 or 3.2.
I advised him to tell the garage to just put a new auxbelt on and then take the car back from them and see if it actually has any further problems.

these V6s - oil in cooling water system is usually a sign of oil cooler failure, water in oil sign of head gasket failure.  (I know op has not got oil in his water)

Mayo - as said pretty normal for these V6s in cold weather - if excessive sign of blocked breathers and need for oil change.

If no coolant loss and performance ok, pretty certain head gaskets ok.  Dump this garage asap mate ;)

The face lift cars with Drive by wire engines have a much stronger head gasket. If its failed then something caused it to fail, rather than it failing on its own over time. If there's water in the intake then it sounds like the engine may have ingested water rather than ejected coolant into the inlet. If so it may have hydro locked and stretched the head bolts. ...may.

Get onto Darth loo knee on here. He'll sort it out for you no doubt. :y
