Heres an idea have you not got any close friends or family that would use it as there main car and they tax and insure it on the understanding that you want it back every now and them.

Never start a car when laid up unless you're going to drive it. It does more harm than good. Give it some fresh oil before laying up, put the battery on a conditioner, handbrake OFF and just leave it. :y

Seconded :y

Add to that... If you're planning to park up for longer than 6 months then a teaspoon of oil into each cylinder through the plug hole when it's cold and left and before re-starting it, remove fuel pump relays and crank it over for about 30 seconds (in 4-6 shorter bursts) before starting it :y

You will fill the crankcase and exhaust with corrosive products of combustion, yet the engine won't run long or hot enough to boil them off, so they will build up, causing corrosion, while the car is laid up.

But.. put it another way: Why would you start it periodically? ;)

I can't understand the reasoning that suggests it's a good idea (and it's not just you. practically everyone laying up a car seems to add the proviso that "it'll be OK, I'll start it up every week..."). Maybe they think it'll make it easier to start when they put it back into use? In practice, the opposite is probably true.

The engine won't forget how to run, and as long as a few precautions are taken when starting a completely dry engine (e.g. crank it on the starter with a little oil in the bores, and allow the oil pressure to build) it will do much less harm than occasional running.

If you have 4 axel stands, it might be a good idea to take some of the weight of the suspension if its not going to be moved for a while.
Not jack up until its off the floor.
Just a few inches to reduce the standing pressure on any joints  :)

This will help the tyres more then the suspension, IMHO, but still a good idea. :y

Also, reduce tyre pressure and, if possible, cover the tyres if outside, to stop UV light from degrading them.

A desiccant dehumidifier in the interior will do no harm and prevent the damp building up there.

You can go as far as you like... ;)

If you're going to cover the car, however, bear in mind that the cover can chafe on the paintwork in windy conditions and damage it. Some covers also get very damp in the wet and will hold the damp against the bodywork, actually promoting mould and rust. There will also be less breathing into the interior, and no sun to warm it up.

On balance, I'd probably not cover the car, but wash it occasionally - or put it in a garage. ;)

i would also remove the wheels or find a old set to put it on
the reason being that with the car stood in the same place you can get flat spots on the tyres,of course jacking it up will stop this until the local toe rag wants some tyres for his car and comes along one night with his wheel brace and says thank you :y because he hasnt had to jack the car up to help himself!!
