Idling problem

Hi,

X30XE engine erratic idling and it failed the gas fumes test on idle. Starts up "fine" when cold and idling ok until warms up. Spark plugs replaced.
No reading on Tech2. So can it be the known ECT( coolant temp sensor) connection failure, all the symptoms match... :(

Any ideas?

What engine exactly?

At a guess 3.0?

Have you cleaned the Idle Control Valve?

Yes, its 3.0
And now, havenīt cleaned the ICV. Any good cleaner advice?

Carb cleaner should do the job  :y

Worth making sure the valve is working correctly, with a screwdriver be careful though!   :)

Very very careful with screwdriver - easy to sratch and wreck ???

Once clean very lightly oil with a couple of drops of thin oil (3 in 1 OK) :y

I used to put a bit of kitchen paper on end of screw driver and just gently make sure it lifts and shuts ok.

So i cleaned it, didnīt use a screwdriver but cotton buds and cloth. It closes up fine. But the problem stays. After the engine was warm I unplugged ICV and revs went up a little and after re-connecting the engine stalled. Normal?
