We are decorating the lounge, dining room and staircase and I looked at the door frames around the kitchen door and thought..'I'll whip them off, pop down to Wickes and get some new ones'.
I spent absolutely ages in there trying to find some wood that was straight. No way Jose. You would not believe how bent it all was. In the end I got MDF as it was straight. (I don't have a preference, except price)
After purchasing half a dozen lengths, I left the shop....no bloody car. I walked the length of the car park and back, now in a panic. Then I realized I was in the blue one not the gold one...duh
After I got home, I unloaded them....b******s....some were bullnosed and some were bevelled. Never checked as they all came out of the same rack.

Don't you just hate it when you can't find a bit of straight wood !!!!!!!!!! I have put it down to just one of those days

Have you got enough to keep the same on one side, i.e inside and outside? Just a thought??

The other side is ok, and bullnose (rounded). I have just replaced rounded. About the only thing that did go to plan

That's why I always get my wood from a timber merchants.  I have an account with Covers who are very good but not sure if you have one near you.  Wickes, B&Q, etc only stock sh!te and their staff dont know/care about how to handle and store wood.  For starters you dont keep strips of it standing up.  It will bend.

That's why I always get my wood from a timber merchants.  I have an account with Covers who are very good but not sure if you have one near you.  Wickes, B&Q, etc only stock sh!te and their staff dont know/care about how to handle and store wood.  For starters you dont keep strips of it standing up.  It will bend.

I try not to use any of these unless I'm really stuck as well, generally rip off merchants also!!

I bought a load of kitchen doors from B&Q about 6 weeks ago for a kitchen that I'm going to fit. 

The 500mm doors were £10 and 600mm £12. I realised today that I needed to swap a 500 for a 600, so popped into B&Q and the chap took my  500 door and gave me a credit note.

Walking to the kitchen department I noticed that he'd given me a credit note for £20 and sure enough when I got the door the prices have gone up to £20 for a 500 door and £22 for a 600!!!

Yeah, I do normally get my timber from a merchants, but due to circumstances, Wickes was nearer.

Have to say though, when I ordered a kitchen from Wickes online, it came damaged. I went straight to my local store, and the damaged bits were changed there and then with no hassle or quibble whatsoever. Plenty of apologies.

I fiitted two light oak doors last week, got the from wickes. Stood them up against a wall for a couple of weeks after I bought them until I got round to it. Upon reading the instructions that came with them, they must always be stored flat to avoid warping, no responsibility will be..........blah blah. Of course, they were standing on end in wickes, as are all of the doors Ive ever seen in DIY shops.
Anyway, they are not warped. Me, on the other hand.......

i try to avoid wickes you get all those old retiered decorators in there bying all the bloody mdf then trying to break in your car becuase its the same colour as thiers .

Wickes is Travis Perkins so i am told

try to avoid those places too much loading unloading you cant drive your van into wikes or b&q but you can in a builders merchants ?

last time i used the delivery service the donught delivered 6 oak doors and left them in the back garden in the rain becuase he never turned up on time the tried to say he was there on time but we wernt shame it was the same driver that had to come back with replacement doors, we had a little chat and all was fine.

What annoys me about the DIY stores is that lengths of wood are not one peice but metre sections joined together. It looks like teeth locking together and glued whereas a a wood yard they are in one continuous peice. The trouble with our local wood yard is the fact I can't resist the bit box cheap bits that I know will come in one day but never do

Ive found that most of the wood is warped in wickes now you come to mention it , good point about keeping it flat but guess they wont be doing that anytime soon

its called finger joints been doing it to doors for years, all these oak doors and especially pine normally verneered with any old shite underneath finger jointed together, solid wood yes, but not one piece
