Y22DTR into an omega
« on: 12 May 2013, 15:26:52 »

Hi, besides the sump.and oil pickup, are there any differences between the DTH and DTR engines? My miggy has just thrown a rod and I'm trying to source a replacement

A engine has just arrived, and despite asking for a Y22DTH engine, the one that has arrived looks nice and clean, but is from a 2004 Vectra... I guess we're about to find out the answer to this question... Straight away, the sump looks a different shape, the one on the car looks like a winged one... And the mounting bolt holes are present, but not used...

Stay tuned.

I will do. The thermostat housing looks slightly different, as does the inlet manifold cover... Should swap easily.

Given the problems I had sourcing a omega engine, this may prove a useful learning exercise...

Canny wait to fit it. I've missed the miggy!

I think the Inlet manifold and EGR setup is different. You will need to use your existing inlet manifold and EGR valve, will give you the chance to clean it.... A lovely job if ever there was one.

You're not wrong! Black fingers for a week or two... The swirl block looks the same, which is quite a result because one of the swirl flaps is missing from the original one.

Having removed the engine, and finding a snapped crankshaft, the only differences I have encountered are :-
  • The sumps are different, the DTR engine has a one piece item, where the DTH has a 2 piece one with a winged bottom half, but they swap over, the balancer units are the same
  • The vacuum pumps are slightly different but swap over
  • The EGR valve, inlet manifold cover and swirl block are different, but swap over
  • The oil cooler pipework is different, so the oil cooler had to b swapped
  • The thermostat housing pipework is different, but they swap over
  • One or two of the engine mount bolt holes arent used in front wheel drive configuration, so they needed tapping out with a M10x1.0 tap

Its all swapped over and ready to be slotted back in tomorrow...
