Looking at quotes for me + mrs Egg -
large(ish) engined auto estate, and around 1500
she likes the renault laguna - either the 1.9 diesel, or the 3.0 24V (for me)
obviously, I want a mig - either elite or MV6
so I've been playing with the usual "confused about the meekats" websites
I'm getting quotes of around 1500 a year for a laguna, and 1100 for a mig.
(Mrs egg is auto-only learner)
BUT...
what really confuses me...
why is a laguna (whether the 3.0 or 1.9D) more to insure, *significantly more* - like 40% more, than a 3.2 MV6?
Why is a 2.5 Elite more than a 3.0 elite? (about 100 quid)
Why is a 3.2 MV6 *less* than a 3.2 elite? (not huge amount, about 30 quid)
I'm guessing the MV6 is safer due to the sports suspension, which could make a small difference, and the 3.0(3.2) is cheaper than the 2.5(2.6) due to what I call the "engine size paradox" [1], but why would a laguna of comparable age and power cost so much more than the mig?
answer's other than "cos it's french, and shite", please

[1] The engine size paradox - take an average 1.1 "beginner's car" - bought because learner thinks it's easier to control, so less chance of accident - chances of crashing in 5 yrs? 99.9%.
Compare to 4.0 Jag driven by 40-50 y/o managing director with 20 years driving experience. chance of accident? 0.1% in 5 years.
Therefore bigger engine = less risk
