Sticking LPG injector
« on: 13 June 2013, 11:52:51 »

As above

Had a little mishap when the system was first installed 2 years ago on the last car.
One of the injector wires ended up getting welded to the EGR valve  :-[
This in turn held the injector wide open until the stag ecu said enough is enough and locked the system out  :-[

Since then, occasionally on the first start of the day, that injector seizes up and the lpg refuses to kick in.
Once the coolant system / engine bay warms up, you can reset the system and it will work without further problems.

I have cleaned the injectors out with carb / brake cleaner. This doesn't seem to help  :(
Can these injectors be oiled just like the icv's on the 3ltr engines ?
Will it help ?

Has anybody out there got a spare motogas gray injector block they can sell to a Newbie if needed  ;D

TIA

Us Newbies need to stick together TG. ;D
Might have some red ones...? Two sets of three.

But I replaced these as they where suspect. Not sure they where correctly diagnosed as suspect tbh. But they are spare if you want them. They certainly don't stick anyway.

They do come apart, but the body is set by the factory, I'm told, so probably not going to gain much there I suspect. The seats are worth a clean though, but if you've tried that... Time to try sumat else as you say.

Ps is it worth swapping injector blocks from the other bank, just to see where the fault goes? :)

Already confirmed chris  :y

It only happens on the first start of the day and only when its dry and warm.
Winter or wet weather and you get no problems.
Once you have done a few miles, you get no problems at all.
One of the lads on here (can't remember who  :-[) came up with the answer to the fault.

Also, I didn't have a problem with on this install until I went for a rather spirited  :-X :-X drive down the motorway and the injectors got some real stick  :-X :-X

Would another blast of brake cleaner then a couple of drops of light oil do any damage ?

I know carb cleaner is ok. Brake cleaner, dunno. Oil? I would avoid in case it eats rubber components or becomes sticky as the oil dries out/wears off. :-\

Clean and dry approach I would think...?

But I am by no means sure tbh.

I think brake / carb cleaner is pretty much the same thing.
Well it smells the same anyway  ::)  Now you all know where my remaining brain cells went  ;D ;D

See your point about the oil so i'll give it a miss  :y

Cheers Chris  :)

Would graphite powder work as a lube then?

Not sure how lpg blasting past at 1.1bar will affect it? Or how various lubes, react with gas.

After conversations with Tielo, there are lpg contaminants that destroy the injector seats. What the make up of the seats and contaminants are, I dunno.

Sp I guess stay safe.

Tbh I'm struggling go understand how an electrical fault Alone can cause a mechanical mechanism to stick? There has to be another factor at play I would have thought.

TG have you removed the injector block from the car, and cleaned in the block itself, as well as from the nozzle side...? Removing the drilled nozzles for access ? ( guessing so but may as well ask :) )

I understand were our coming from Chris.
I can only go on what happened.
Also going back the first time it happened, when I read the stag codes I'm pretty sure it said something about No1 injector stuck open or words to affect  :-\
It failed to kick in on the first attempt this morning so I popped the bonnet and gave injector No1 a tap with a screwdriver.
Reset and tried again.  It kicked in straight away.  This is the wire that was damaged when it was against the EGR valve pipe  >:(

I'll give it a good clean out later and see how it behaves  :y

Cheers lads  :)

I am guessing that the injector solenoid probably overheated when power was applied for a long period of time. They are low impedance so can't cope with 12v for more than the few milliseconds they normally open for.
