I have had to drive in London all my driving life, after learning and passing the test there.  I just love it; I get a fantastic buzz from the excitement of it all, but I know usually where I am going (at least in the City /central / western / eastern / south-eastern London) which does help a lot.

On the business of the congestion charge it is very noticeable now how the traffic dramatically thins once you go over its boundary North of the Elephant & Castle.  It is great!  The other day I had choices of parking meter bays, for a University mini-bus I was driving, just around the corner from the Houses of Parliament, Westminister.  Before the congestion charge I never found that. :y :y

Although my politics are basically at variance to 'red Ken', he was right in his policy of introducing the 'C' charge. :y :y

i usually just park where my daughter lives and then jump on the tube but on this occasion i had to drive around east london trying to get her help for her asthma attack,in the end we gave up trying hospitals which had 5 hour waiting times and settled for talking a chemist in boots in stratford into giving her an inhaler, which reduced the stress level somewhat.

Yes Albitz this is not good and is what really requires the attention of the politicians.

Mind you at our local major hospital, the William Harvey, Ashford, finding a parking space for the car can take an eternity, then cost you at least £2 >:(.  I am just glad you were able to get help for your daughter from the Stratford Boots. :y

the royal london a&e and the walk in clinic looked like all the recent immigrants to the area had decided to have a day out to take a look at the local health facilities,so nebulising was out of the question, but the inhaler(which she has been bollocked many times for not keeping a spare one of)did the trick. :y.......but all those red traffic lights... >:(

It was once said that these where deliberatly set to stay red for long periods on the instructions of Ken Livingston to dis-courage people driving in London.  Boris has promised to rectify this....but we shouldn't hold our breath!  ;)

Try it in an artic. You plan your route & just as you think you've cracked it there's a weight limit/low bridge/no left or right turn & with 45ft behind you you can't simply spin round & try again or stop & check your AtoZ. You can go for miles trying to get back where you started & shatnavs need an upgrade for trucks.
However being a southener living up north i know the smoke pretty well & quite enjoy "going down"!!! :P :D ;D
