Omega Alarm on the Elite
« on: 28 June 2013, 19:28:25 »

On the 3.2 Elite (which would be the standard VX fit alarm system) Siren/Horn doesn't work only the hazards flash...

I'm not sure if the power sounder has been removed or changed for a new battery.. Only noticed today as the key fob was flat (crappy eBay Duracell battery  >:( don't last 5 minuets ) Opened the door by the key in the door and the hazards went off so i presume that's the alarm trying to power up  :-\ ... Also i have removed the battery a few times a few weeks ago and the hazards never flashed so going by old threads that would suggest there is no battery in the power sounder..

Personally i'd prefer to remove the whole thing it just drains the main battery when the car is locked and the alarm system is armed and when the alarm doesn't work its even more pointless..

Would it be quicker to dismantle the alarm system or fix it going by this description  :-\

Also, Is it possible that the horn or siren is knackered and if i was to change the alarm speaker unit would it still work without the power sounder if it doesn't have one, I presume it would just that it wouldn't when there's no battery in the car ???

Thanks   :)

It would seem that power sounders belong in the bin!
I have the same problem as you, in that there is no audible alarm. When I checked, I found the ps already disconnected, but the alarm horn was not. I ran power through it but got nothing back so I believe the unit itself is dead. I've a 'new' one coming so time will tell.

Just run 12v directly to the horn to test it.If it doesn't work, you need another. If it does work then the problem is a bit ore involved. ;)
