Omega Engine swap
« on: 04 July 2013, 08:31:31 »

Hi chaps.

One of our omegas has problems with engine. Its time for a swap. Its x20Xev.
Well i have 2 types of question here.

1.  I do know 2.2  y22 from FL omega will fit assuming I am using my manifolds. I would think 2.2 from Frontera x22 would be suitable as well, but can anyone confirm this? I do know it has separate engine oil cooler, but i can fit that as well.

2. As i am newbie i cant write in WANTED parts area. I am looking for options to get omega petrol 2.0 or 2.2 engine around Brighton area within 50 miles radius.  Could moderator post this for me as i am not selling , but looking for parts.

Some background:

I used to live in Brighton and still have a few friends there that are sort of mechanics. Now i am in Bulgaria. Well i got an LDV van in here and needed a few bits and bobs - so got in UK complete engine + gearbox+turbo Ford turbo Di. So its in my mates garage in Brighton. Than was offered in UK cheap VM 2.5tdi complete engine ( same as Chrysler voyager, Jeep cherokee, Frontera A 2.5tds, Late Ford Scorpio, some Rover i think, etc, etc, etc) . Than was offered cheap air compressor for impact tools.  So to sum up - i have quite a bit of heavy and chunky stuff to get back to Bulgaria. I dont think omega will manage all of these at once.  ..........My dad has knackered his engine, so now I am looking for a replacement. I am seeing 2 ways of doing it:  1. buying Frontera in Uk, loading it with engines, etc, etc, and when it comes here using its engine on omega. Fronteras break here for good money. 2. buying another 2.0 or 2.2 omega engine near Brighton( or whole car for breaking as my mate would do it for me)  and getting a van to get these bits here.

Any Ideas or suggestions are much appreciated

I could be wrong, but I think the Frontera engine uses a chain not a belt.  Don't know if that will affect things.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

To clarify the 2.2 petrol in the Omega is belt

The 2.2 petrol in Vectra/Frontera is chain.

Vectra 2.2 and Frontera 2.2 have very little in common. Even inlet/exhaust manifolds have swapped sides. Vectra engine is the chaindrivven one. Mind you that chain is more troublesome than belt on our beloved petrol omegas.

Any thoughts on the actual Frontera engine swap?
