Be very careful around the Southampton area. My yougest son has managed to pass his driving test first time today. He is insured as a learner until I get home tonight to pay the extra for a full licence

Congratulations to him, I doubt I'd pass again in fact I bet many of us wouldn't

I'ts amazing. Both mine are now well into their 20s and for some time I've offered them driving lessons. Ok, going off to University kind of puts some restrictions in place, but even when they'd finished I kinda pushed them about learning to drive. But, I never saw any real enthusiasm for doing it. Son took a test once and failed for going too slow. So right now I have two offspring, nearer 30 than 20 who don't drive.

BUT, is it essential these days ? I don't know. I certainly could not manage without driving, but they seems to manage fine.     

I took lessons at 17, failed twice, but had a job driving a LWB transit at 18. So maybe it's me that just sees it as essential.

I think when you live in London it's quite easy to live without a car.  I did for 6 years in my yoof!

My BIL lives in Victoria in London. Sold his car because it was next to useless down there.

Kids and Cars..... a very toxic mix, not to mention horrendously pocket draining!

Same with my two eldest , just no big hurry to get driving , I suppose the horrendous insurance has something to do with it
