Raspberry Pi Media centre

Has anyone looked into doing this? Seems like a nice cheap solution and can mount on the back of a flat TV using the VESA mounting points.

Yup, got a Pi, running XMBC Open ELEC on for my media centre in the sitting room. It connects to my NAS for all my film & TV needs.

Nice little walk through here for Windows showing all tools to use:

Raspberry Pi this: http://www.element14.com/community/groups/raspberry-pi

Basically a pocket sized little PC for £25.

XBMC = Xbox Media Centre. Originally designed for first generation Xbox, its evolved into more platforms, everything from Apple TV, to Windows, and this Linuxed based Pi.

ELEC = Type of XBMC, there are multiple versions, i prefer ELEC over say Raspbmc as it appears to cope better with full 1080 HD content.

NAS = Network Attached Storage, basically a load of hard drives on a little computer you can access in or outside your network. You know you see a C: or D: on your PC? think of NAS as a "Z:" which can be access from any PC plugged into your network.

Thanks Tunnie - that's quite useful. I bought the XMBC pre-loaded onto a SD card and have got it sort of running ok with the Flirc and a USB stick with a few MP3s to play with. I've tried connecting a powered USB hub - so I can add multiple sticks but it doesn't like it at all.

I'm waiting for the case to arrive and will then mount in on the back of the TV.

Have you got iPlayer etc working with yours?

I have a couple of Pis here, but only bought the MPEG licences for one.  Currently has RaspBMC, easier to install than OpenELEC, and seems more stable (but still not perfect) - that said, I only tried OpenELEC for a few days.
