High level brake light
« on: 10 August 2013, 18:42:06 »

Hi everyone, just picked up a 2001 2.2 CD saloon today and took the tow bar off as i just didn't like it and i wont ever be using it!

since I took the tow bar off, the high level brake light comes on when I turn on my lights, it gets brighter when I press the brake but im fairly sure it shouldn't be on all the time!

The tow bar wiring had just been spliced straight into the cars wiring using some little blue block connectors, I just undid the wires straight from the black and grey connection points and have pulled the wires up into the car (after covering the end in tape).

anyone any ideas?

Thanks
Jacko

My last ex met car had tow bar fitted for armour. And for use in stopping pursuits safely, most met cars have towbars now, refit it :y

That suggests to me that where the blue connectors were it has slightly nicked, as intended of course, the cables and perhaps two are shorting between each other, or the bodywork of the car itself.  I would pull the wires back out and put insulation tape over where each connector was on each wire. :y

Your problem is definitely a short. ;)
