refurbishing a shift solenoid
« on: 31 August 2013, 16:13:48 »

My lexus has an auto gearbox fault  >:(  :'(  :-[

Almost certainly a shift solenoid, which is quite easy to remove (remove transmission oil pan, then one bolt and a clip).
The solenoid is easy to source - in the US - but will cost me a grand total of $407!!! inc. shipping and duty and taxes.

I'd prefer to repair/refurbish or source a replacement more cheaply (obviously)
The gearbox is an aisin warner box - who supply lots of different manufacturers (possibly the AW25/35 in the mig?)
Anyone know if refurbishment (of solenoids in general) is possible? Or of a guide to repair?
It's only a solenoid ffs, - surely it can be rewound for less than £300!

It's not a AW35 it's an AR25 or AR35 which has a GM designation of GM4L30
