LPG Tank questions
« on: 16 September 2013, 18:56:53 »

I've bought a 100 litre LPG tank for the Omega. 4 hole, 400 diameter, 930 length. Just fits behind the rear seat, and the 80 litre capacity will be very welcome  8)

It's a Stako tank, with a Stako Frame. I need to get some straps for it. Just a couple of questions

- Will generic straps do?

- The LPG shop "WTV" state you need at least SIX straps on a 100l tank, even internally mounted. Is this really the case? I can't see there being enough points to mount 6 straps!!

- With the buckle type straps, I've always struggled with these, what's the best way to set them up? Tinleytech reckon, rather than thread it through the buckle, just fold the "loose" edge so it's against the tank, that way when it's tightened, it'll hold. Would you do this?

Am I also right that 4 hole tanks have the valve at 50deg?

Fitting the tank is my least favourite part of conversion, it may be a little longer while my rib heals, unless I can rope someone into helpnig me with the lifting etc.

Thoughts most welcome, please :y

Depends on the straps. Read the COP11 :)

The angle will depend on the valve set.

Remember, if using a 2nd hand tank, it is dated, and needs retesting 10yrs after manufacture (which in effect means replacement)

Straps required is in a table in COP 11.

Mounting angle... Can't remember but there will be a little cross on the tank to help, it is the midpoint

Any help with the straps, please chaps?

My frame seems to be the same as Kevin's -

However, I can't seem to source straps anywhere. As you can see, there seems to be a metal "bar" on one end of the strap, that seems to hook onto the inside of the frame?

what happens at the other end, is the strap a pre set size, and simply bolts down to the other end of the frame securing the tank, or is there still one of those bloody awful buckles?

Any idea where to get these straps from? Can't see them anywhere online.

Could I just use generic straps/buckles, and bolt to the frame do you think?

Thanks :y

Straps generally come with the frame. For the sake of ease I think I'd just buy a new frame complete with straps ;)

The number of straps required will vary depending on the width and thickness too... A new frame complete with straps will have all you need :y

Any ideas on the best source mate?

Tinley frames seem to come with "generic" straps, so they say, and little on eBay for a 40 dia tank :y

Tinley, FES, Autogas whatever they're called! Just call a couple of suppliers. If you buy frame and straps from Tinley then they should be compliant :y

Bear in mind you need to confirm bolt and plate diameter/quantity in COP 11 too..  It all changes at 100L from memory :-\
