2.5TD issue.
« on: 15 October 2013, 20:51:40 »

I have done a search but didnt find anything matching this issue.

The car runs fine for the most part but gear changes are a bit of a trick.  As you dip the clutch and lift off the power the EML comes on momentarily. If you wait for it to go out (only about a second) before lifting the clutch then all is fine.
If not then the car hesitates to the point of severe engine braking - quite a hard jolt before picking up again.

I have checked for stored codes and have the following codes:
91 & 92 - cruise control apparently although its not fitted.
64 - Fuel quantity control device voltage low - present

Obviously I have seen plenty of posts about code 64 and will try the diesel magic solution, but I have not found any posts referencing the same symptoms.

Any guesses?

Symptoms of 'Start of injection' sensor (No 4 injector) failure here ... but then, it should've thrown codes 81/82.

For the present, I'd ignore that '64' code, and start at the tank by giving the lift-pump/swirl chamber a thorough going-over as per:

Then a new fuel filter filled with Diesel Magic/Forte - a relatively inexpensive initial elimination process.
