MS Surface 2
« on: 29 October 2013, 18:09:46 »

It is a thinner faster, better screen version of the Surface 1, but according to this review, still suffers from the same split personality OS problems where it is trying to be a tablet and laptop and does not fulfil either requirement very well. Looks like another niche product for MS fanboys and fangirls again. Good idea, potentially great, but unfortunately engineered by Microsoft.  :o :o :o :o

If you want a tablet, buy it from someone who can do a competent job of making one. :y

I've yet to identify a need for me to get a tablet.

I use phone for calls, text, email, maybe a bit of browsing. I have an ageing Samsung netbook for slightly more serious stuff. I have zero requirement for watching videos on the move or telling the world what I had for breakfast via Twitter. I'm just not sure what people actually use them for, except posing of course. I was at a gig other day and some dick was balancing an iPad high in the air taking pictures. I do have a Kobo Mini eReader that only need charging every few weeks or so and fits into a jacket inside pocket, a tablet won't do that.

Maybe it's me . . .  ???

If you already have a Lap top, no you don't need one.

But if choosing between a net book and a tablet, as you have neither, tablet every time IMO. Quicker start up, smaller and more convenient, longer battery life etc. however they are limited on connectivity with cables and ports and all that guf.

I just find tablets way more convenient.

Since got a net book cheap when comet shut down, for car diags stuff. But that's all I use it for. Its a pita generally.

Nope, Rog, me too. Actually I have a couple of tablets, but as they are always flat, takes too long to get any charge in them and start them up. I struggle to see why anyone would wan't one in place of a proper computer.

Nope, proper full blown lappy for me, despite its age (5yrs), it still starts from cold in 11s, and the (replacable) battery is good for about 5hrs. Better/faster/lower TCO.

But live and let live.
