Does mpg mean anything at all today?
« on: 08 November 2013, 19:13:45 »

The other day I posted that I got 37mpg on a trip to Liverpool. I reset the computer when I got back. Since then I have done about 80 miles, at an average speed of 9mph and returned 14.5 mpg. The traffic, even in a small city like Wakefield, is just horrendous.

That is almost slow enough to get your wheels stolen while you drive. :) ;D ;D

Average speed in my Omega is 31 mph iirc. MID reads 22mpg,but real MPG on LPG is considerably less than that.
Thankfully I don't use it very often but use the mobile chip shop most of the time, which returns 40mpg at 45 ppl - equivalent to over 100mpg.  :)

The thing is, it renders urban figures quoted by manufacturers irrelevant.

If we want to drive, particularly thirsty V6s, then we have to pay the extortionate costs for fuel. Mpg didn't mean much to us really when petrol was much cheaper, and modern traffic and driving styles don't help.

this thread remind me a question when I was set at traffic for hours tonight.. the cross road was blocked by a big truck passing at red and then all directions accumulated onto it  dead locking the whole ;D ;D ;D (total idiots and I was happy watching them fighting ;D )

as we know the length of total roads are finite, but number of cars tending towards infinite :( ,  so if the last car comes and occupies the last free space , will it move ever again ?  ;D ::)

Just spent the last 5 days sat in road works / heavy traffic in the mig.
Topped the gas tank up and played with the calculator ............. 10.4 mpg  :'(

Have been keeping track of MPG for a while and found the following (LPG car)

Over 6700 miles avg displayed mpg 23.88 actual mpg 18.4, an accuracy of about 80% :( about 20% of the driving on motorway.

I always reset the odometer and disp avg mpg after filling up so as the get the real figures for that tank full (LPG)

The saving factor is overall with petrol and LPG costs I have averaged 82p per litre  :)

Think it's good that have a car I love to drive, which is a known guzzler, serves it's purpose, has cost me about £1200 a year to own (3 over 10yrs) and only paying that much for fuel  :o :y
