Car Battery Charger
« on: 10 November 2013, 19:26:34 »

Looking to get a new battery charger as my 30 + year old Ring has seen better days and ( christmas pressie list was passed around at home earleir today) so as its harder every year to think of something you would like, or need, decided to plumb for a new one.

Need some advise though as market place looks confusing  :o...needs to be capable of doing the Omega if needed so larger unit prefered..expect I could persued "buyer" to go to £50.

Any advise guys :y

Easy, you need a basic Ctek smartcharger.
That's an MXS 3.8, which will happily charge any car type battery you own and costs about £50 depending on where you buy it.
They're effective, reliable and easy to use.

Yep, CTek aren't bad, in fact the current Ring ones are pretty good if you want something that will output a bit more punch (depends if you want it as a trickle charger or to get a flat car started again).

You can ignore the "Up to 1800CC" and the other bowlax that gets printed on the Halfords ones. The fact is they'll all charge any size of car. It will just take a little longer if the current output is low.

If you intend to use it for overnight or longer charging, get the CTek.

Have no need for an "instant charger" or something that will do a full charge in few hours.

I always thought a low slow charge was better way to look after the battery so an overnight or longer could be fine.

Will check out Ctek model as advised,Nick, and thanks for advise :y

Another vote for the ctek here .. had a 3600 for quite a few years now, use it on both car batteries and the caravan batteries, excellent bit of kit, and it can't "overcharge" so can be left connected without any problems.  :y :y

My Ctek was shite. Best thing that ever happened to it was it melting. Very disappointed with it.

I've never had the need for a battery charger, not since I sold the omega.
