Browsing through Machine Mart catalogue for presents for my family to give me, I found p.275 a headlight and tail light restoration kit. Has anyone experience of this, is it any good? If I am not allowed to ask this sort of question, please tell me.

I've never used one myself. I generally use a coarse cutting compound followed by a generally polish. Lots of elbow grease required though.

Someone else used toothpaste but the arm and hammer one.

i am wary of things like this because u cant go back but one thing a mate of mine said, headlights have a thick lens so can be polished out. but i suppose its your own gamble.

toothpaste does work because i tried on the jag. i didnt believe it at first but it did

It's just a mild abrasive, that's intended for plastic. However, rubbing compounds, like Farecla's G3 or G10, intended for refreshing paint, work just as well. Toothpaste will also work as it's a fine abrasive compound that breaks down really quickly, as are jewellery specific polishes.

If you already have such abrasives, and a selection of fine wet and dry, then a specific 'headlight restoration kit' isn't really worth having.

There is a 3M one on Amazon that is the dogs dangles.

Brasso did a lovely job on mine...but Arm and Hammer is cheaper (and will make your headlights all minty fresh too )

the only difference from using wet and dry and polishing pastes is you get a sealant to put on afterwards which in theory should hold the yellow at bay! wi used a kit not long ago and it worked well but our 3m polishing compound ( or any abrasive compound really) imo and a nanotech sealer would work just as well imo.

got the turtle wax kit off amazon last year as both the mig and the estima had plastic lenses that were so clouded that they were mot fails. Cost about £14 I think. Basically they contain different grades of sandpaper, a rubbing compound, spray to use as wet and dry and a seal to use at the end. The estima lights came up really well, the omega not so well but enough to pass so Ill be doing them again this year! TBH, an easy to use and effective kit and only downside is that they dont supply enough of the sealer which is just on a polythene wipe. Plenty of youtube tips using toothpaste and brasso etc but the turtlewax or 3M kits are probably best. I found that trying to source replacement lamps for my mini-facelift a bit of a nightmare, not just because of availability but because the plastic light adjustors apparantly break too easily(though someone on here had metal replacments for sale I seem to recall).
