Glebe land
« on: 30 December 2013, 18:51:04 »

Anybody on here affected? This is land that was previously owned by the church and whose income was used to maintain the building. If the land was sold off for building etc., the liability still exists for that landowner.

The Government have been forcing parishes who wish to enforce this to register with the land registry by 31st October 2013, so it is easier to know the situation, when a solicitor does a search in the future. This has affected about 12,000 properties, who will have received letters informing them.

However, legal opinion is that the Chancel Repair Act of 1932 will still apply, whether the church have registered the glebe land or not and if your house is on glebe land you could end up with a nasty bill on your doormat.  :o :o :o :o
