WTF is that....????
« on: 19 January 2014, 08:14:04 »

On my Omega Elite, theres a horrendous noise coming from around/underneath where the airbox is... It kind of sounds like noisey bearing..

Without me removing the airbox, does anyone have any idea what it might be please...?

The noise will happen with or without the engine running, so Im presuming its something electrical more than mechanical...?

Yep. Air pump runs the rear self levelling suspension.

Shouldn't sound too rough though...?

Aaaaaaah thats what it is, its really loud when working, I presume its on its way out...

Doesn't really matter about replaceing it as I'll be removing it when I fit the lowering springs...

If I just disconnected it would it make any difference to the handling of the car...? I presume it would...?

Simply unplugging with standard air shocks is not a good idea. Sl springs are way too soft to cope without the self levelling shocks.
And be aware lowering below 20mm will make it impossible to keep the rear geometry in spec. Meaning excessive tyre wear.

Btw, sl shocks will work with ANY springs. Provided the self levelling is re calibrated to the new ride height, which ime it seems to do on its own, somehow. :-\

Ps, if you do want to disable sl, simply pull one of the small black relays top of the drivers fuse box. One is main beam, so if that doesn't work, its the other one. ;)

Thanks for the quick answers :)

Im going to be buying the lowering springs next month but was going to go for -40mm springs, you say these aren't recommended because of excessive tyre wear... can the camber be adjusted on the rear of these cars to bring it back in-line...?

Camber is adjusted via the rear tie rods, which affects both camber and toe. Its always a case of finding the best compromise between the two, and its different for each car due to tolerances. The compromise can be achieved up to 20mm lowering. Any lower, and there isn't enough adjustment get the camber correct.

So it WILL eat tyres at more than 20mm lowering.

Suggest just buying the fronts at 30mm lowering, to save ground clearance issues. And fit Mv6 lowered sports chassis rears from vx, these aren't cheap, but trade club helps a lot. They are also firm enough to take some load and don't wallow when carrying a rear passenger for instance, like some of the crappy aftermarket items available. You can actually load the boot.

Should add. Mv6 lsc springs are 15mm lower than standard. So there's tolerance to get the camber correct.

Thanks for the very helpful info mate, much appreciated...

Do MV6 springs come up for sale often on here....?

Would it be beneficial to change from the Elite set-up and just change to MV6 front and rears...?

Fitting MV6 front and rears to Herman. Fronts are currently about £160 a pair and rears about £190 a pair on TC. Bit of a backlog from the factory though. Been waiting 4 weeks for the fronts so far. I would suggest doing a very thorough review of the main suspension components rather than just fit new springs. Dampers may well be past their best and lowering 40mm seriously cuts down on the choice for good quality dampers working within optimum tolerances as well as taking the suspension adjustment beyond what's possible. Might as well do the wishbones and drop links and top mounts while you're at it unless they're already done. No sense dismantling more than once if you're in a position of new wine and old skins.

No sadly, not seen any for a while, especially as its the face lift mv6 model with lsc you need, as the pre face lift is not lowered by springs as they are standard. But you might be lucky if you post a wanted add in the test zone and ask Jimbob to move it to parts for sale.

Front settings will take 40mm loweringso camber can be achieved, but as said above, the shocks won't and the damping of elite shocks won't match the firmer spring rate. Elites are very soft.
Go 30mm front and you can use lsc front shocks or, eg, Bilstein b4 for reasonable cost, both take 30mil lowering.
