anti virus for tablets
« on: 21 January 2014, 17:52:23 »

So we have for various reasons bought a tablet,it seems to work OK and suits ours and the kids needs, but does not seem to have any virus protection built in .
Should I be looking to find something to load onto it ?Or do tablets for some reason not get infected hacked etc, it seems to me that it should be treated the same as a desktop/laptop and be wary what we do with it and scan/virus check etc but there seems to be nowt preloaded or have I just not found it yet?
I as always bow to you all with far greater techy knowledge than me

What OS?

Android has seen the largest rise in virii in recent times, and due to its architecture, AV software cannot clean infections, only warn the user that something is infected.

Don't know too much about AV on IOS, there are some virii out there for IOS devices.

In both cases, rooting/jailbreaking massively increases your attack surface.

I got 2 windows phones and I haven't loaded anything so not sure if there is a AV on it but suspect it has as it would be defunct by now, probably comes with it from the phone company.  :-\

There is a free app for android phones... "Lookout" that does an AV and can "find" your phone if you lose it (under certain conditions) ... seems to work OK.

I've not used the "paid for" one as I don't see the need (for me) of the "extras"
