Techy Question for the V6 Nerds
« on: 03 February 2014, 15:48:27 »

Hi Guys,

Went to test drive a 2001 2.6 V6 Auto CDX today drove lovely with a few battle scars on the bumpers so nothing that cant be fixed, covered 102000 so not massive came from a Hire car company and the inside is in fantastic condition but theres something that put me off the deal that i want to run past you guys first before i buy,

Ive already spoken to RobG (which i am massively thankful) and he said high possibility it could be knock sensor but he wasnt 100% sure

Can any of you guys rattle your brain and tell me what it is and let me know if its any easy fix.

Its a Single Wire Black outer casing with a green outer sheath which i foil backed the wire itself is white. Where should it be connected.

I did the Pedal Trick on site (thanks RobG) and it has no codes.

There should be a plug on the front cable tray which is the other end of it

Knock sensor, that tells me the cambelt has been replaced by somebody who did not route the knock sensor cable correctly when the aux tensioner was re-fitted.....the result is a cable that has made its way into the aux belt and been trashed.

They can be joined if your good at soldering, or replace it.

To replace, its easier to pop the alternator off its top mount to get access.

I woudl expect the engine managment light to be on with such a fault once the engine is revved slightly and it would be very down on power.

Cable routes behind the tensioner and up around the timing cover. Failsafe way is to remove tensioner to ensure correct routing

This happened to me when I first changed the cam belt on a 1999 3.0 V6 Omega. I made a meal of the job, replaced the aux belt tensioner before I realised I had a lead hanging around, so plugged it in as best I could. After 1000 miles or so the EML came on, message was Rh knock sensor. I resoldered the lead and rerouted it, all was well.

If repairing, try to keep the integrity of the coax as much as possible
