v6 power loss

hi my 1999 2.5 v6 estate has an intermittent fault...when cruising around town it goes along quite nicely but on the motorway or above 50 there is a loss of power...no warning lights or smoke or anything really...just doesnt want to go when putting my foot down....can anyone point me in the right direction please...cheers nick...btw my first omega after a couple of years break... :D
