web sites purporting to be aligned with Police
« on: 11 April 2014, 11:04:02 »

Anyone come across Police Community Clubs of Great Britain?

Very mixed feedback on internet. They do produce a magazine but how your funds help is another matter.

Other organisations pop up claiming to be representing/ aligned with Met Police. I have referred it to Met Police yesterday for comment.

The only organisations I have come across that purport to be associated with the bill are dodgy security companies.

Some time ago they pestered the hell out of me and my company. The more they pestered the more convinced I became that there was something very wrong.

Not websites as such but we have a couple of scumbag dodgy bastid alarm system companies around here who often claim to be associated with the local coppers  >:(
The thing is, the only time they have anything to do with the coppers is when they get a knock on the door with a trading standards officer in tow  >:(

What is of concern is that scammers must get the magazine and then they come on posing as Met Police - we voice record everything here at the office and it is when you play back you realise how canny they are. A lot of people must get tucked up and something should be done.

There are many "scums are us" officious websites. Ones looking like HMRC make the news normally in January where they con people into submitting their tax form through them and charge you £80 or more for the privilege. Personally, I think there should be much more use of the Trades Description's act passing-off laws so these people end up in jail, and if the law does not cover websites well then it should be changed so it does.

Scams seem to be getting far more numerous and when people are caught they are rarely jailed where it is considered a 'white collar' crime. To me this means there is very little deterrence, which is why you see much repeat offending.  >:( >:( >:( >:(
