very similar to a close friend of mine who, after leaving work, thought he was racing a work colleague off a set of traffic lights, turned out his son had just been in a road crash and admitted to hospital he was rushing to see...   :-[

My favourite turn on this phrase is "Assumption is the mother of all opps ups"  ;)
