Fuel Pump re Assembly question
« on: 04 May 2014, 13:04:14 »

Ok, all fairly straight forward, until we get to the final part off pushing the plate back down into the rubber seal  >:(

If I put the thick round rubber seal in situ and then try and push the in / out plate down into it I end up catching a bit off the top of the seal and pushing into the tank.  :(

So I then try putting the seal around the plate and pushing the the plate and seal down into the tank together, it goes but not all the way as it catches on a rigged part of the seal half way down, even some persuading with a wooden block and hammer, wont do it as I going to end up bending the plate at some point.  :(

Had a few attempts now both ways, which means I either being stupid, doing something wrong or theres a knack to it?

Anyone?

Seal onto tank, a wipe of oil around the inside edge and gently push the plate in. Try and push it down evenly, and once it's almkost home fit the locking ring. Tighten by hand, then knock it round until it really won't go any further. This point will be about 1/4turn past where you think it is :y

Thanks Al, again, I did actually try that, but every time I get half way in, it pushes the rubber seal into the tank (well part of it, anyway), maybe Im being a bit heavy handed with it all, will give it another go.

Starting to think it maybe its the wrong seal, as it was a real pita to get the plate off, fairly sure the last one I did just pulled off and pushed back on. but that was a while ago.  :-\

They're tight with good reason ;D I've done a couple now, and neither have been as straightforward as the should be ::)
