"Whole Lotta Shakin Goin on"
« on: 19 June 2014, 16:51:24 »

Hi guys  ;)
How ya'll diddlin?  :y
OK so got the old lady back today after fixing my hesitating/compression problem. Finally it wasn't the head gasket as believed but we had to replace that long black part on top of the inlet manifold on the V6 where the words "ECO TECH" are written (Sorry I don't know what it's called but could anyone tell me? :-[ plz)...
Anywaze... So, before I started having the hesitant accelerator problems (5 weeks ago) I replaced the exhaust and afterwards noticed the car was shaking a bit (like a dog wagging its tail and behind) when I accelerate and shook even more when I was idling at the red lights. But now that I've fixed the air problem I noticed that the car is shaking more now at idle every 30 secs or so or on acceleration. It feels like the tires aren't balanced when I accelerate but I know it's not that because the steering wheel doesn't move and as I said earlier we shake when stopped at the lights too!
The shaking feels like it's right under my butt centrally and the gear stick moves a fair bit too.
Plus I feel like there is lost power when it shakes.  ???
What's the problem? Any ideas?
I'm thinking the exhaust is moving on acceleration? Missing holders?
Problem with the exhaust manifold?

Your input and suggestions are ALWAYS appreciated  :y
Cheers

So your Garage who told you it was the Head Gasket had gone has fixed your hesitating / compression problem by changing the MultiRam Breather Pipe module on top of the Penlium?

Check coil pack for splits

Hey thanks for answering  :y... OK so I'll check that. But is that a cause? Would a faulty one make the car shake? Why?  ???

My old elite would start fine but any load on the engine would make the whole car shake , worth checking especially if its the original coil

Because its not sending the spark to the sparkplug .

Hi Anthony, me again.

Did you follow the steps we outlined a week or so ago?

Have you lifted the bonnet and tucked your tie away and had a look in the dark to see if one or more spark plug leads are tracking? Include looking down the back of the engine between it and the bulkhead . That is where the spark originates from- the DIS pack.(Distributorless Ignition System) It will be very noticeable if they are.

Next you could try removing a plug lead with engine off and seeing if it is worse. If it stays the same it may be that lead, plug(although you changed those if I remember correctly) or the output of the DIS Pack. DIS packs rot with water dripping on them from the seal on the bonnet below the windscreen.

I presume the breather part they changed was instead of just cleaning it unless it was damaged removing it. What problem did that cure?

Really the maintenance guides are your friend on this forum. easy to follow but some jobs take time and effort.

I am sure others will agree with me when I say unless you strike it lucky with a capable vehicle engineer who either knows his stuff or researches problems(i.e. looks on Omega Forum and follows the appropriate guides) then you will be rooked by a technician who will just change parts until you run out of money. That applies in any country.

Last thought is change your profile to show year of car (as later cars have different spark system.) also your location. You never know there might just be an expert in your locality who might have a look at the car.

Hi Varche!
How you doing? And thanks for the reply!  :y
I'm on the leads later. I did pull them off on the left side but while the engine was running  :-[ Doh but the truth is that the first lead left side going up to the back of the engine seems suspicious as the engine changed when I disconnected the other two leads but not that first one. I'll do it again later while the engine is turned off then start her up.
Also I need to check that DIS pack. But it's a matter of time. I have it today so it's a busy day. Coolant flush - Check leads - Remove plenum check DIS pack.
I'll keep you updated.
Cheers amigo  :y

I looked for a "Spark In The Dark"  8) But there weren't any.  :y
